How-to: Replace Toyota Prius Touch Screen / Multi Function Display (MFD)
Переглядів 145 тис.10 років тому
If you have a sluggish, insensitive or broken touch screen you can replace it yourself and save tons of money. The company I bought my MFD from on ebay: stores.ebay.com/adrimports2012/
You're awesome, thank you for the great video.
wonderfully well done..
Thank you!!! You gave a gift that keeps on giving all these years later I'm buying my own part in going to try it!
I got quoted four thousand to fix this. ty for sharing, i appreciate this.
Fantastic video! You make this DIY process enjoyable with encouragement! Thank you!
My Prius didn’t come with a Zoeeee 😊😊❤
Thank you so much for this. The mechanics wanted $1000 for this repair. With this video it took me 30 minutes and a $350 part.
You have saved my life. I normally don’t watch UA-cam videos when it comes to auto fixes because I always end up confused, but I was pretty desperate when my MFD stopped working. You went through everything perfectly. I had some issues unplugging the power plug. Part of one of my AC covers broke off but everything else went smoothly. I don’t have the display yet, but I decided to do a test run with taking everything off so I’ll be ready when I need to put it on. Thanks so much for your help!
The vents are very brittle on my 08 and a couple crumbled without much pressure at all. There wasn't any way to be "careful". It will be a yard or fleabay for replacements. I'll check dealer prices just in case new are available without needing long term financing.
Sorry that happened. Thanks for the tip though. Makes me rethink attempting the repair on my car until I've found a source for replacement vent panels, just in case.
Thank you ma'am, your description & demonstration of how to replace the MFD was organized detailed & concise. The job looks easier then i expected. i will be replacing mine as soon as i locate a replacement one.
You replaced the entire unite not the touch screen
MFD link is old - what term should I search for on Ebay?
Will this work on 2010 prius?
I did it!!!! Directions worked great. Found refurbished part on EBAY (~$300) and I'm back in business.
Do you know there are many Prius version out there? Why don't you put on the title what Prius are you referring about???
Awesome.... Thank you VERY much!
How much the screen cost
anyone done this with just the screen instead of the whole console? that's the replacement my dad sent me. I wonder how much more work it will be to go further in there.
Where did you get the new MFD? How much?
Zoe is a good girl
you are the best youtube tutorial explainer person ever
Zoe was a huge help. And your power of positive thinking really carries the day. Thanks and pets to Zoe!
You are a sweetheart we appreciate you thank you 🥂🏆
what about air bags?
If you see this-does the replaced unit need to be flashed to the vin number? Some mechanics have said to me that only Toyota dealer does that.
I loved your video! So much better than the men who skip half the instructions then expect you to just get it! I've watched a few videos of this and just decided to hire someone until I saw your video now I feel like I can do it myself!
Excellent video. Thank you very much. Fixed my Prius in 45 minutes.
Is it possible to run car without the MFD installed? We need to send ours out for replacement with a 2 week turnaround. Will we be able to drive the car in the 2 weeks while it’s off getting repaired?
Can you start and use car while the MFD is off being repaired and run car without it, or is it necessary to have the repaired on ready to put in?
Yay I saw your beautiful face you Prius repair angel
Great video!
Super helpful video, it got me thru the process without a hitch. One suggestion: I never open up any electrical connectors without first disconnecting the 12 volt battery in the back. Just in case any contacts touch the body, which is all -12 volts, this will prevent a short.
First try this trick: ua-cam.com/video/jsVIisBffoQ/v-deo.html
Thanks a lot. Great job💪 ua-cam.com/video/lbb4xwYj19g/v-deo.html
My husband and I followed your video to replace our MFD. The first time we got a USED replacement from ebay, it did not work. It needs to be a REFURBISHED one in which the touch screen has been replaced. The dealer wanted 1400+ for the part and $200 to install. You saved us $$$ by posting this video and we are beyond happy to have a functional MFD component. Thank you, thank you thank you!
Will replacing the Digitizer cure a dim MFD?
Nauseating film movement, terrible auditory loud to quiet. Get help with camera while you do things. Choreograph the movements. Also get a little wireless microphone to pickup your voice in a constant volume. Good luck.
I have a 2009 Prius and my touch screen goes on and off, almost like when the wire on your phone charger is messed up and you have to wiggle it to get it to charge. But the screen will go on and then go completely black and then back on and glitch constantly. Will changing the mfd fix this issue?
Mine has the same issue. Same year car as yours. I took it to the dealer about 1 year ago and they replaced it with a new MFD for about $2000 USD. Now the new one has the same issue. I'm going to try getting a new one and changing it myself to save $1500 or so. I'm curious if this solved your problem, before I launch into taking my car apart.
My son's 2009 Prius had this same issue and has now been completely black for almost a year now. I'm hoping that doing this to replace the screen will fix the issue. For a couple hundred, I figure it's worth a shot.
Install the screen
I'm 67 years old with arthritis in my hands and am not mechanically inclined *at all.* I sent my dead MFD off for repair, so had to disassemble and reassemble everything twice. It took me about half an hour each time, but *I DID IT*, thanks to your video. I really appreciate this. Thank you.
Good job
I worked right to left on a British car. Success!! £75 for second hand part as opposed to £2500 including fitting. Thank you
What is so great here is that you are so encouraging. My wife and I were able to replace our MFD on our 2008. It was getting way too dim. It seemed to be a daunting task at first. You are so helpful. The only problem we had was disattaching the connector holding the wires to the end of the black plug, but we listen to you do this a few times over and finally figured it out that they were attached at the bottom with a skinny plastic connector that had a tab we couldn't really find easily and were afraid we would break a wire.. But with a flashlight and my wife's suggesting it was like a computer connector, we were able to remove. We had bought a refurbished MFD on Ebay for around $300 that had a guarantee and it came in a few days. We made in addition a $75 deposit which is to be refunded when they get the old one back. One mistake we made was that we did not order the right serial number and simply trusted that all 2008s had the same one. Not true, but we called the company and they said the serial on the refurbished would also work on ours. Our serial on the old one ended in "30" but the new one ended in "10." We finally got it in following your directions. We are so happy with the result and our car is much safer. Thank you.
Great video. But I would add one step -- after the new MFD is installed, plug in the Power button and turn the car on to make sure the new display is working.
Exactly my thought!
If you need to replace your MFD. There is an option to have it rebuilt that comes with warranty. Here is the link: www.upfix.com/product/toyota-prius-2004-2009-mfd-navigation-radio-multifunctional-display-repair/
There are also other companies that will do this.
I just got mine back from them. It works! And they kept great communication throughout the week they had it so I never wondered what was going on. Very good operation and customer service!
@@CalFunInSun do you have their address?
@@johnsko3321 the address is in the original post just above ^^^
WOW, thank you so much. The dealership wanted close to 2 grand to fix my MFD. I got mine on eBay for $298.00 and after watching your video 3 times, I did it myself. To say that I'm proud is an understatement;)
Thanks for the instruction. My only comment is to be careful pulling the pieces apart. One vent completely shattered and the other cracked when I pulled them. I guess plastic became brittle over the years. Had to order new ones.
This happened to me also. My left vent shattered into numerous pieces and the right broke in two pieces. I'll have to replace those parts when they come in. But the instructions provided made the whole process pretty easy. sw6074's video was superb!
Those thumbs down must come from Toyota they want $2800 to replace. Great video!
The ebay store doesn't seem to exist
American Womanis is amazing! Best review on the topic!
